The peer review and summarize for other classmates’ analysis paper is really helpful. I learn from an active way and see mine problem in a very clear position.
Today I outlined Heng Xu’s analysis paper which talking about the self-efficacy and the meaning to Arnold’s life. Her paper is pretty well organized and clear. I learnt a good way from Heng’s paper that can make your paper clear is place your main points or thesis statements in the front or at the end of every paragraph. She wrote her main points in the beginning at every paragraph, so it is very easy for the reader to find her thesis.
After I read her paper, I found my analysis paper is quiet unclear. I talk to Heng (she read my paper) and ask for her advice. She said the same thing that I worried about. She said it is a little bit confused after the first time read and she can only find several key words in some of my paragraph. I think this is the space I really want to improve with.
Over all, it is very helpful to read and compare with other’s analysis paper since we can learn something in a fast and acceptable way.
Glad the exercise worked for you Sherry! If you try it on your own papers for other classes, even the simplified version of summarizing each paragraph and then saying if it supports or doesn't support your thesis, really helps you see gaps in your writing and logic. Heng is a great writer, so glad you were able to learn from her!
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me! I found very helpful seeing others paper because it made me realize what mistakes and need to improve on :)
ReplyDeleteI think that peer review is such a great tool of revising essays. For me, sometimes I make the stupid typing mistakes without noticing it, even if I read it over, I may not find that out. However, since we now have a new reader to read our paper that which can kills those error easily. I like it.
